There's really no reason for anyone to question your integrity today for you are focused on doing the right thing. Normally, you would take the time to hear someone's ideas before saying no. However, even the slightest hint of a problem now will send you running back to the safety of your more simplistic plan. Playing by the rules is wise, but don't get so self-righteous about your stand that you miss what's important.
