You have been put in the middle of a struggle today and you really don't like having to mediate someone else's drama. Although you might want to avoid the hassle completely, you realize that you can actually have a positive impact on the situation. You don't need to negotiate a solution. All you have to do is listen to both sides of the argument. For now, sufficiently airing the issues could be enough to reduce the tension.
